"When are you chatting with the band?" an inquiry reads. "I wanted to ask if I can join as their extra sister."

There is only one problem: The author likewise wants to be Haim's newest recruit. Furthermore, we are not alone. A host of celebrated admirers have openly coveted the position.

"How often on tour that young girls came up to us and said, 'After your show, I got a bass'," remarks Alana, the youngest of the sisters. "That's the biggest honour. That's an award in itself. Our mission is accomplished if we can encourage young girls to make music."

Historic Nod

The band have called into their homes, where they're taking a pause after an lengthy tour in for their new album, I Quit.

Heartbreak and Candor

The album was born from a time of emotional upheaval. All three sisters found themselves single, and the music captures that odd in-between place where you're happy to be free, but not yet ready to let go.

The words follow endings and partings. The sisters desire love, but not the kind of love they've experienced. You can hear them determining in real time who they want to be.

"I love description, yes," says Danielle. "I Quit is essentially a mantra. You have to actively work on shutting out the outside opinions and saying, 'I don't give what people think'."

Refinement of Music

That developed confidence demanded a fresh approach – more organic and immediate than anything the band had done before.

For Danielle, who helped produce the album, that was founded on the drums.

"Percussion is such a nuanced thing, and I care so much about it," she states.

"'Journey of the drum sound' will be the subject of our biography," quips Alana. "I always say, our albums cannot begin until we find the perfect drum sound."

Experiences and Collective Humor

The band's openness inspired the album's marketing, where the sisters revealed some of their romantic horror stories.

Someone left Este over a health concern. Alana recalled a story of flying to spend New Year's Eve with someone, only to receive a casual gesture at midnight.

"When you're going through these heartbreaks, you just feel like there's only darkness," says Alana. "So to be able to find humor in those stories and hear others tell you even crazier stories, it's therapeutic."

A Secure Legacy

It's not difficult sense a evolution in the band. Today, Haim are more assured of their place in the music world.

They're top-billed acts, with successful albums and an global fan base.

"My sisters and I have been performing since I was little," says Alana. "There is no other path that we were destined for. And I'm really fortunate we've reached this point and we're still going strong."
